Passage Read: Ruth 1-4
Meditation Verse: 1:16

Thought

Ruth understood that Naomi likely had no one to help her, being more a widow. She was willing to forsake her people and likely any hope of a good future in order to care for her mother-in-law. She did not think of herself or put her wishes first, but chose to live for the sake of Naomi. She wasn't ambitious for herself, but cared for the needy, refusing to abandon Naomi to her fate, even if it meant she was poor all her days, begging bread for herself and Naomi. This is true faith in God. It is not seeking our own prosperity, but serving those God has entrusted to us, living for their good rather than our own ambition.

Application

I shouldn't live to make a name for myself or advance up some corporate ladder. I should live to train my family and do good to those around me. I should be content with what I have and live for people, not my own fame or prosperity. If God blesses me, let it be because I cared more for the people He put in my life, including my employer, but more for my family, making sure they know Him and have at least the basics of life.
