Passage Read: Exodus 31-34
Meditation Verse: 32:1

Thought

How easily they cast off the Lord and made a new god! They knew full well that their new god was nothing, because they had made it, yet they were willing to bow down and worship it! They had seen Moses and the Lord do incredible things; they had seen these things with their own eyes. They had been terrified when God spoke from the mountaintop, yet now they dared risk His wrath by violating the first and second commandments He'd just given them! Though Moses hadn't checked in with them in over a month, they could still see the fire and smoke on the mountain. Did they so quickly rationalize the miracles away? Why didn't they appoint someone to go check on him or pray to God and reestablish communications with Him?

Application

How often does God have to do something amazing for me to remain faithful and committed to Him? If He goes forty days without any special communication or miracle, will I grow faithfulness? He is God whether He speaks directly to me or not. He is God whether He answers my prayers or not, whether He does miracles or not. I have no business, no right, to demand that He work miracles for me to believe and obey Him. He is God, even if He never does anything else in this world or in my life. He deserves worship, praise and obedience all my days, whether He ever does anything special in my life or not. Let me be faithful to Him, even if He never speaks to me or does anything for me again.
