Passage Read: Numbers 36 - Deuteronomy 3
Meditation Verses: Deuteronomy 3:21-22

Thought

What God has done in the past is recorded for us, so that we will know His power and might, and have confidence in Him to take care of us as we go forward into the future. He has called us to live in a way that is different from the way the world lives. Unbelievers have no one they can count on to defend or protect them, so they have to fight for themselves, to obtain everything they desire. So everyone around them is suspect, a competitor, a possible enemy. But God has called us to love our neighbor as ourselves, to not fight them or see them as an enemy (but if we do, we're still to love them and do good to them). He asks us to be vulnerable, to be willing to suffer loss in our kindness to others, and He promises to take care of our needs and pay back anything we lose in obedience to Him. So He needs to prove His power and might, to assure us that He is able to do what He promises.

Application

The more I trust that He is able to take care of me, the more I'm willing to believe and obey Him, especially when He tells me not to live for the things of this world. As Paul says, if we discover that our faith was meaningless, that there is no eternity with God and our faith in Him was only for this life, then we are more to be pitied than all men, because we missed out on the only opportunity for joy and happiness and stuff! But if God is true, then how terrible it would be to miss out on all He promises. So are these things true that were recorded about God and His power and His commands? If so, then I should have confidence to believe and obey Him. And I believe they are true, so I will live as He directs.
