Passage Read: Ecclesiastes 3-6
Meditation Verse: 3:14

Thought

What God does, it stands forever. What God says, He says with all generations in mind. His words are true and never need to change, because He sees the beginning from the end. He knows all of mankind from Adam to the last generation to be born on earth. He knows what is true for all men and has recorded that for all mankind, so His Word is trustworthy and true for all generations. Nothing should be taken from it and nothing should be added to what He has said. That's where scribes go wrong, by adding to God's Word in an attempt to explain it, to keep people from violating it, until they teach doctrines of men instead of the simple and plain Word of God. Others take away from God's Word by using current culture and thinking to determine which words of God still stand. Both are equally wrong because they forget that God knows man better than we know ourselves, and all His instructions are written to every generation that walks the earth. He never changes, His works never change, His ways never change and so His Word never changes. Only we think we have improved and grown wiser, and so think we know better than God. We are the fools who set aside any of God's instructions.

Application

"Every word of God is flawless, He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him." His words are flawless, so I don't need to correct them, either by adding to them or taking from them. In fact, if I take refuge in Him and His Word, I will be very safe indeed, because He will keep me safe. He will protect me from all foolishness and wickedness. But to be so arrogant as to think I or modern men know better than God is to open myself and others to great harm and destruction, like what we are seeing today in families and children and in society at large. The problems we are creating for ourselves never would have come about if we trusted in God and obeyed all He wrote.
