Passage Read: Ecclesiastes 7-10
Meditation Verses: 9:16-18

Thought

Wisdom is better than strength, but few if any really appreciate wisdom or honor it. Though wisdom may get a chance to show its power and benefit, men almost always return to praising strength and power. So wisdom is forgotten and men return to sin. It takes real effort to hold onto wisdom. If no effort is made to retain it, it will be lost in the overwhelming noise of sin and folly.

Application

This is why so many who start well end badly. Wisdom looks good at some point in their lives, but it is eventually forgotten, lost in the chatter of fools and the pleasures of sin. This is actually a proof of the second law of thermodynamics: any closed system trends towards disorder and chaos. Wisdom is injected for a moment, saves the day, then is forgotten as everyone goes back to their sinful ways, and everything good brought about by wisdom is undone. They're just conquered by the next king that comes along. Wisdom only delays the inevitable. Chaos always comes. I can hope for grace, for revival, but the apostasy will still come, maybe delayed a few more years, but it will come. Until Christ comes, wisdom will never be truly honored, so there's no point in choosing the path of wisdom in hopes that people will praise and honor me. They won't. They will only honor strength and power, so even Jesus will have to rule with an iron rod. Until all sin and all sinners are finally and fully removed from the earth.  I simply need to choose wisdom in order to honor Jesus, and not fall into the trap of honoring strength or power.
