Passage Read: Proverbs 26-29
Meditation Verse: 28:9
Thought
If a man is not willing to listen to the Law of the Lord and learn from it, then his ways will be an abomination to the Lord and so will his prayers! Not only are his ways disgusting to God, but the Lord refuses to listen to his prayers because they too disgust Him! That man doesn't know the Lord, doesn't know what the Lord is concerned about, doesn't know what the Lord desires. In fact, that man has no interest in knowing the Lord or living by His instructions; he cares only about what he thinks it's good and right, and of course prays for his priorities, not God's. He arrogantly thinks he can request his wants and wishes from God, and God will do them! That disgusts the Lord!
Application
God listens to and honors the requests of those who humble themselves before Him, who tremble at His Word and do what He instructs. That's what it means to fear the Lord, and the man who fears the Lord gains understanding of Him, so both in attitude and in behavior, that man pleases the Lord. He naturally delights to grant his requests, because he is praying in line with God's heart and will. So if I want the Lord to delight in my prayers, I need to listen carefully for anything and everything the Lord wants to teach through His Word. In effect, if I won't listen to what He has already said, He will have no interest in hearing what I have to say.
