Passage Read: Proverbs 6-9
Meditation Verses: 9:7-9

Thought

A mocker and a wicked man abuse those who rebuke them, but a wise man welcomes correction and learns from it. This is not just instruction on how to treat different kinds of people and the importance to discern who you might be talking to, but it's also instruction on what kind of person to be. I don't want to be a mocker who abuses those who correct me; I want to be a wise man who learns from those who correct him. I need to recognize that there are those who abuse those who seek their good by pointing out their error, and I want to make sure I'm not one of them.

Application

So I need to be open and welcoming to rebuke and to correction. It is hard and my natural reaction is to resist it, but even when it's done poorly, I need to work at listening to it and hearing what truth might be in it, so that I might become a wise man rather than be a mocker.
