Passage Read: Psalm 83-86
Meditation Verse: 86:17

Thought

One psalm ends with a plea that the Lord would cover the writer's enemies with shame that they would seek the Lord, this one ends with a plea that the Lord would give him a sign of His goodness that his enemies would see and be put to shame. Today men are casting off all shame. What once was considered shameful behavior, men are declaring today with pride, and putting it on public display. And others are coming to watch and celebrate. The more they glorify what was once considered shameful, the more hardened they are to the Gospel. They have cast off all restraint, and others join the fight for their freedom to do so. Oh that the Lord would humble them and exalt His people, that all would see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, before the day of Christ's return, while there is still time for them to repent and be saved.

Application

I too ask for a sign of Your goodness, God, that Your enemies may see and be put to shame, that they would know You do honor the righteous and hate evil, that they would know that You will act against all wickedness and those who perform it. That they would be warned in a powerful way and repent and be saved. Help me to walk in a way worthy of Your goodness; help me be righteous in word and deed, that You would have freedom to honor even me, that men would see the difference between those who walk in obedience to You and those who don't, that Your goodness on the righteous would be clear and dramatic and amaze all who see it.
