Passage Read: Psalm 136-139
Meditation Verse: 138:1

Thought

I don't have much cause for this, in that I don't spend much time among other gods or among great men who think and act like they are gods, but even when I encounter those who think much of themselves as their idols, I must praise the Lord as my God and Savior. He is my help, while other men look to themselves and their cleverness or power. He is my hope, even when all things look bleak.

Application

When others praise this or that for their well-being or success, I should and will praise the Lord for whatever I have, and better yet, for what He promises me in eternity. Men today may glory in their present greatness, but most of those who do so will suffer for eternity. I will praise my God because even if I have little in this life, I will work for great riches in eternity.
