Passage Read: Psalm 128-131
Meditation Verse: 131:1

Thought

David was made king, and he had to involve himself in great matters, matters between nations and for the good of his people! Yet he says he is not proud, nor his eyes lofty. Neither has he walked in great things or matters too wonderful for him. He didn't seek out things that were not his responsibility. He didn't seek out high position! It came for him! He was content as a shepherd, doing his duty, caring for the sheep. Because of that, the Lord sought him out, because of his faithfulness in a relatively small thing and contentment in the Lord's assigned task, so the Lord was able and willing to exalt him.

Application

I don't need to concern myself with things that are not my responsibility. I don't want to be proud or have ambition for high position. I can and should be content where I am, and if the responsibility is too great for me, I should be happy to take a lower position. I don't want all the responsibility! It's just a burden! I'd rather be free to care only about myself and my family, to have a clear break between work and rest and be able to enjoy my rest when my work is done!
