Passage Read: Psalm 120-123
Meditation Verse: 123:2
Thought
The psalmist says they look to the Lord like a servant looks to the hand of their master, waiting with longing, with expectation, with a readiness to respond, for when the Lord shows grace to them. They are in great distress and long for the Lord's help, plead with the Lord for help and wholeheartedly wait for Him to act. That attentiveness, that complete focus on the Lord is good in all circumstances, not just in times of trouble. I am always a servant of the Lord, so I should always be attentive to His hand, watching for any command, eager to jump to His aid.
Application
In times of scorn, I should long for His deliverance, and should expect it if I have truly been a faithful and useful servant. But if I haven't been a dedicated servant, I perhaps shouldn't expect His help. So I should make sure I am dedicated to serve Him, so that He would not want to do without me, so that He would be quick to deliver me because I am so useful to Him. Which means I should show my usefulness at all times, not just when I'm in trouble or distress. If I only wait till then to look to the Lord for help and guidance, I may find myself cut off and on my own. That would be bad.
