Passage Read: Psalm 119
Meditation Verses: 119:99-100

Thought

Insight and understanding come from meditation and obedience. To be as wise or wiser than teachers of the Word or elders who have much more lived experience of God requires meditating on God's Word (probably day and night) and obedience to it. I suppose that anyone who thinks on God's Word regularly will also be inclined to do what it says, especially if they are like the psalmist who finds great delight in the Law. If you see its beauty, that should inspire obedience. It is, after all, the wisdom of God. Meditation gives the understanding of a teacher, but obedience gives the wisdom of an elder. It is not enough to merely meditate on God's Word, even God said that meditation was for the purpose of obedience and not just insight. God doesn't just want me to have knowledge of insight, but a changed way of living.

Application

I need to continually meditate on God's Word, but not stop there. I also need to do what it says. I need both insight and understanding, and God's desire is that I am equipped to teach, but also experienced enough to model. Having both meditation and obedience guards against hypocrisy.
