Passage Read: Psalm 107-110
Meditation Verse: 107:43
Thought
The goodness of God and His mercies are all around us, but it takes wisdom and a bit of effort looking in order to see them. He is subtle, but those who know Him and His ways can see His works. They may look like coincidence and happenstance, but if I know the Lord, that He is sovereign over all things, that no detail is too small for Him, then I will be able to discern His works.
Application
It takes knowing the Lord and the kind of things He does and the kind of things He approves. He does not bless wrong behavior and He does not open doors to sin. So happenstance that leads to disobeying His Word cannot be from Him. Coincidence or blessing that seems to reward wrong behavior also cannot be from Him. "Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights," unless such gifts encourage the receiver to violate God's Word. This is where wisdom is needed and discernment. I can't just blindly believe every "good" is from God. Does it result in His praise? Does it result in believers becoming more faithful and obedient and honoring of Him? If not, either those mercies are being abused or they're not actually from God.
