Thought
There is a humility here that is worth emulating. How hard this truth must have been for Peter, a lifelong, faithful Jew, to fully embrace. It changed everything, it undid everything he believed to be inviolable from childhood. Paul got it, but Paul lived among Gentiles. Peter struggled with it because he lived among Jews. But God had changed things, and Peter needed to accept, and he did. Who is any man to stand in God's way? What God declares to be true is absolutely true, even if before He had required something different from His people.
Application
There are beliefs I have held for as long as I can remember, but when God's Word makes it clear my belief is wrong, I need to humble myself before God and accept what He clearly says is true. It is not that I get to decide what the new teaching is to be, but that I need to check everything I prefer to believe or was trained to believe against the whole Word of God. Theological positions have been argued and defended for generations, but some fall apart so easily in the face of the character, nature and revelation of God as recorded in the Scriptures. It is not the arguments of men that I need to cling tightly to, but the plain meaning of God's Word. Everything else I need to let go so as not to stand against God.
