Passage Read: John 7-8
Meditation Verse: 8:58
Thought
"Before Abraham was born, I am." There's no wiggle room here. Jesus puts this in a context that cannot be missed. "Before Abraham was born," that alone means Jesus is claiming to be about 2,000 years old, even if you don't count the "I am" as His identifying Himself as YHWH. But He doesn't say, "I already was;" He says, "I am," which not only makes this a claim to be YHWH, but implies that He had no beginning. He always has been and always will be. He simply "is!" This can be no other claim but that He is God!
Application
There are no two ways about it: Either Jesus is God, as He clearly claims, or He is not good with words! I cannot believe anything else but that He is God in human form. He is worthy of all worship! If I can believe what He says about Himself, then I must also believe everything He says about me and how I am supposed to live.
