Passage Read: 1 Timothy 3-4
Meditation Verses: 4:7-8
Thought
It's not just worldly fables that we need to be careful of and alert to, but also these doctrines of demons which include forbidding of marriage and abstaining from certain foods. Really it is anything that distracts from disciplining ourselves for godliness. We are so easily caught up in this or that craze--anything but the craze of godliness. Politics, economics, health, wealth, collectibles--all kinds of things! Anything but diligence to walk in the ways of God. Everything else is meant to be a distraction.
Application
All I need is sufficient food (which is less than I think) and modest clothing. Anything else is a distraction. All the rest of my energy should be devoted to practicing and growing in godliness. It's not wrong to have hobbies, but really what should matter to me most is how I'm doing in relation to God.
