Passage Read: Proverbs 30 - Ecclesiastes 2
Meditation Verses: Ecclesiastes 2:17-21

Thought

If all I live to build and produce is tied to this world alone, and I must leave it all behind when I die, what is the point of laboring and building it all? It is the waste of a life. Men build great works that far outlast their lives, but few of their works endure forever, and who built them is not remembered with them. But to what end? Even if everyone remembered who built what, the builder is long gone and enjoys none of his fame or admiration.

Application

Only things with everlasting value are really worth struggling and laboring for. If it's just for feeding me, clothing me and providing shelter, it's not worth excessive effort, but minimum effort so there is minimum disappointment when I must leave it behind. If I really want to live a life of value and meaning, the bulk of my energy and thought should be invested in things that endure for eternity, that I can enjoy for eternity. Knowing God and growing in His ways. Good works that glorify God and bring others closer to a knowledge of Him, these will follow me into eternity. Saved souls and souls protected and strengthened in the truth, these will join me in eternity and make my life forever meaningful. These are the things that are worth spending my days laboring over, that will hold value forever.
