Passage Read: Proverbs 14-17
Meditation Verse: 14:6
Thought
The mocker is wise in his own eyes. He disdains all those around him. He cannot find anyone wiser than him, so though he seeks wisdom, he finds none, none that measures up to his standards. None that satisfy his understanding of right and wrong. He seeks wisdom, but he's too busy justifying himself to find it. It is not hard to find, but he doesn't want true wisdom, because that would mean full submission to God. But to the discerning, knowledge comes easily, because he knows where to look, he trusts the Lord and His every word. The discerning know who to listen to and who to ignore. The mocker even ignores God.
Application
The only reliable source of truth and wisdom and knowledge is God's Word. I can and should trust everything it teaches. But knowledge comes easily to the discerning, so I also need to be careful what "truth" outside of God's Word I adopt. Not all is worthy of acceptance. Only God's words show the way to life, anything else that doesn't align with God's is to be rejected. It is not wisdom, no matter who and how many men praise it and repeat it. That's why knowledge comes easily to the discerning, because he knows how to weed out what is false, and he is not his own standard, unlike the mocker. So I need to be discerning, not a mocker, and trust God above all, and know His Word and do it, so that I can know Truth and avoid deception.
