Passage Read: 2 Kings 4-7
Meditation Verses: 7:18-20

Thought

It is not good to doubt the power or ability or word of the Lord. This officer questioned whether the Lord could bring about His promise to cause flour and barley to be sold so cheaply the next day. His doubt cost him his life, no chance to repent. That was it for him. He should have known who Elisha was, even if he didn't believe in the Lord. He should have known the things Elisha had done, impossible things, so as not to question Elisha's word. But either he couldn't help himself or he was chosen for such a time as this, to be a warning to any who question what the Lord says.

Application

Doubt can kill! Especially when God has been doing miracle after miracle, big and small, and you've seen or heard of them. Those who question these things as recorded in the Bible show this to be true. Because of their doubt, they do not believe and they perish. We read these things, we hear about them, if we want to live, we should believe them. If we repent before the end of our days, we can be saved. There are things that I have trouble believing as recorded, and that keeps me from experiencing the power and presence of God to the degree He desires to reveal to me. I need to not merely acknowledge that they happened as described, but believe from the heart that they happened just as Scripture says so, that God did exactly as it is written. Because I need and want to believe in that almighty God, because He is the only God who can save and He is the only God who is real! Belief in that God must change how I live and what I live for.
