Passage Read: Isaiah 27-30
Meditation Verses: 30:9-11
Thought
The people are unwilling to hear the word of the Lord. They have gone their own way and they want to keep going their own way. They don't want to be confronted with the Holy One of Israel. They don't want to hear His commands and His righteousness and the righteousness He expects of them. So they command the seers and prophets to be silent or only speak happy things, illusions and lies that make them feel good about themselves. This is what Paul talked about when he said in the last days people would gather around themselves teachers who tell them what they want to hear as opposed to what they need to hear. It is the same everywhere. People want to think they're just fine, but no, they're living by their own wisdom and ways and sit under judgment. But they don't want to hear that they need to change, so better to silence the prophets sent to warn them and tell of God's willingness to receive them, if only they repent of going their own ways.
Application
It is the same today. Preachers preach happy things, helpful things if you want to try them. But they don't preach repentance, they don't preach against our evil deeds. We're not evil, just misguided or ignorant. So we just need a little compassion and realignment. Mostly we're fine. We don't want to be confronted with the Holy One of Israel and His holy commands. We don't want to do what is good and right, but what makes for riches and comfort in our pursuit of worldly things. I need to grow bolder in speaking God's vision and command, rather than give in to people's desire for words of comfort and assurance when they don't even care what God wants of them!
