Thought
There is so much confusion in Israel because of the multitude of their idols and the conflicting voices of their prophets. The diviners speak their own visions and they are false, just made up. They comfort the people, but it is a false comfort, keeping them from repentance and truth. So the people wander in confusion and are easily led astray and oppressed by everyone who comes along. There is no recognition or discernment of truth, there is only one new leader after another, who tells everyone to chase this way or that. The Lord holds the leaders responsible, and He will rescue His people from the deceit of those who takes advantage of their position to promote lies and bring His people to ruin.
Application
It is possible today to know the truth despite the lies of rulers and influential people. But it is so obscured by the sheer number of deceitful voices and their collective volume. You have to know where to look and you have to work to read it and believe it. Still, God will hold accountable all the liars who assure the lost and those who belong to the Lord that there will be no punishment but rather rescue and prosperity for those who follow their lies. The Lord will rescue His own and punish those who lead them astray. It can be discouraging and overwhelming to see all the lies and their power over people. How can anyone escape? But somehow the Lord will deliver His chosen. There will be far too many lost, but those whom the Lord desires will be delivered. God help me not give in to defeat or to the lies, but to grow in knowing the Lord and Truth, and faithfully speak it, despite the noise.
