Passage Read: Amos 3-6
Meditation Verses: 6:4-7
Thought
The problem with being wealthy and thinking we honor God is that we can't see the disaster hanging over our people's head. We're blessed, we enjoy all kinds of good things, and we think we honor God, so surely we must be blessed by God. He must be delighted with us! When, in fact, He is disgusted by our selfishness and godlessness. We live for all kinds of pleasures and treasures, and it never occurs to us that we might be in grave trouble. It never occurs to us that our people are living in all kinds of sin, silencing the righteous, hating the upright, mocking the devoted. God would rather we were weeping over the sins of our people, over the ruin of our country.
Application
This nation may be materially rich, but so many of my countrymen are morally bankrupt--and they love it that way! I shouldn't be complaining about gas prices, but weeping over the rampant godlessness, immorality, violence and injustice! That's what God desires. Not living it up to the best of my ability!
