Thought
"There is nothing new under the sun." Men today have not devised any new kind of sin, all has been done before. So the perversity we see today has been done before. Therefore, this instruction is as important and true today as ever. Believers are not free to follow the ways of the lost, of unbelievers. No matter how wise man may think he is today, his wisdom is more about justifying his fleshly, sinful desires than about any real progress in intelligence.
Application
I must not follow the ways of the lost who came before me or the lost who dwell around me today, the sinful practices of the people of this place or the people before. The only wisdom and instruction I should follow is that of the Lord. He does not accept as an excuse to sin against His ways that "everyone else is doing it." "All things are lawful," but that doesn't mean I'm free to follow the practices of people who don't know or care about God. God's commands and instructions are the standard by which I'll be judged as believing or unbelieving.
