Passage Read: 2 Samuel 6-9
Meditation Verses: 6:21-22

Thought

David didn't think of the people around him and what they thought of him as he worshiped the Lord. David thought of the Lord and all He meant to him and all He'd done for him. David worshiped the Lord alone; he wasn't putting on a show for the people to see and judge him. He didn't care what the people thought; he was fixed on God. If some people thought he made a fool of himself, he certainly didn't care what they thought. If he even thought of it, he knew that those who truly loved the Lord wouldn't care how David looked, but would admire his love for the Lord.

Application

We make so much of dignity and dignified behavior, and there is a command to be sober in all things, but not for the sake of how people see me. God should so delight me that I cannot contain my joy before Him, even if I look like a fool to those who make much of appearances. I may not know how to "cut loose," but I shouldn't be concerned about what others think of me when I'm supposed to be worshiping the Lord. And if the weekend service is too constrained for me, I should take time outside of it to worship the Lord more in line with what I want to give the Lord. I need to spend more unprogrammed time alone with Him, both to hear from Him and to give Him the worship and celebration I want to give Him. The weather can't warm up fast enough!
