Passage Read: 1 Samuel 9-12
Meditation Verse: 9:16
Thought
The Lord promised Samuel to send Saul to him by the next day. How did He do that? He caused Kish's donkeys to wander off, so that Kish sent Saul with a servant to look for them. After three days of searching and not finding, they ended up near Samuel's home. Saul was ready to give up and go home, but his servant suggested they ask the seer who lived in that town, and Saul agreed. That's how the Lord sent Saul to Samuel. That's a perfect example of how God's sovereignty works with man's free will. God created the circumstances that would bring Saul to Samuel exactly when He promised Samuel, and Saul's every choice along the way worked to bring him to Samuel exactly when God promised.
Application
My choices and decisions in life are not programmed, but God knows how to set things up so that the chain of my choices lead me to God's destination. It's so much easier for God to lead me when I'm seeking to do His will, but I don't have to wait for some special word from Him before I make my choices. Saul's decisions were all mundane decisions related to finding some donkeys yet they brought him to Samuel exactly when God intended. Multiple proverbs confirm that I may make decisions, but the Lord directs my steps to lead me into His will. So I don't have to know God's destination for me before I make big or small decisions, I just have to make sensible choices along the way, in alignment with His revealed will whenever His Word has something to say about the decision at hand.
