Passage Read: Exodus 11-14
Meditation Verse: 14:31

Thought

This was God's goal in doing all these miraculous signs, that His own people, those whom God fought for, would see His mighty power and fear Him and believe in Him. He was also exalting Moses as His servant, whom all the people should honor and trust and follow. Not just Israel, but all the world, that when they hear these things and see how Egypt was cut down, that they to would fear the Lord and believe in Him. God is a true God, with incredible miraculous powers that He uses for the benefit of those He loves, and against those who do not listen to and obey Him. God is not to be mocked or belittled or ignored. When He speaks, all men everywhere should be quick to listen and believe and act on what He says. Those who do so will enjoy peace with Him, but those who ignore Him will suffer His judgment. Those who reject Him in life will be rejected in death.

Application

God's purpose in doing these things and recording them for me to read is one and the same purpose: that I would fear Him and believe in Him and in His servants who recorded all His words and deeds. Recognizing God's incredible power and His absolute authority to do such mighty deeds is the beginning of a right relationship with Him. He is God; I am a favored person in His eyes if I respond properly to His words, commands and instructions. He has every right to instruct my ways, and His power will be a benefit and safeguard to me if I listen and obey Him. But if I choose to go my own way, if I don't take Him seriously, then I will find myself on the wrong side of His power, sooner or later. I may not actively oppose Him, I may only ignore Him, but either way, I will condemn myself because I did not fear Him as He deserves and did not listen to Him as is right. There is only one right response to all these things: fear God and believe in Him and His recorded Word so as to do what God instructs.
