Passage Read: Genesis 37-40
Meditation Verses: 40:14-15

Thought

Joseph considered himself kidnapped and enslaved, and then was unjustly accused and imprisoned. Yet despite the injustice of all his circumstances, he served his master and then his jailer well. Whatever situation he found himself in, he didn't spend his days complaining and pleading his case, but gave himself to serve. He didn't drag his feet or refuse to work in protest, but instead did his best and received blessing from the Lord, so that he prospered in his unjust circumstances, so much so that the one he served gave him more and more responsibility.

Application

This is what Scripture means when it says that whatever I do, I need to do it wholeheartedly, as if serving the Lord. I've never been enslaved or unjustly jailed, so none of my circumstances have ever been anywhere near as bad as Joseph's. I haven't any excuse to work poorly or grudgingly. I may not have the most prestigious or important position, but that doesn't mean I can be slack in my work. On the contrary, as a believer, "whatever I do" means whatever I do, without limit. Anything required of me or anything I agree to do, I need to do it to the best of my ability. That's what pleases God. And that's what He expects of me today.
