Passage Read: Luke 1-2
Meditation Verses: 2:49-52
Thought
Jesus knew who He was and who His true Father was. He was drawn to the temple to listen to and learn what the teachers at the temple taught. And everyone who heard Him speak were amazed at His understanding and answers. Jesus understood more than all these teachers, and was probably eager to begin teaching and correcting the errors of these experts. But then His parents found Him, scolded Him and brought Him home. He would wait another 18 years before beginning His mission. How hard that would be to know clearly what needed doing and yet be expected to wait until a far off time. Yet Jesus did so, and in the meantime grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Application
Waiting for clearance to do what needs to be done is hard. But it is also a time of continued formation. I may think I know what needs to be done and how best to do it, but I'm not as prepared as I think. God has His timing and I have mine, but God knows best when the time is right for me to begin. In the waiting, God has things He still needs to do in me and in the world around me, to prepare me for the work He has assigned me, at just the right time by His determination.
