Passage Read: Job 25-28
Meditation Verse: 28:28
Thought
It's so simple. The fear of the Lord is wisdom, and understanding is to depart from evil. To fear the Lord is to know and honor Him and all He commands and all He desires. To fear the Lord is to be afraid to anger Him, afraid to offend Him. That is wisdom, to know the Lord so well, we know what delights Him and what offends Him, and we make sure to please Him and not anger Him. Wisdom and understanding are the same thing. Because wisdom fears the Lord, it produces understanding that makes the possessor to turn away from all evil. Wisdom and understanding are not merely two kinds of knowledge, they are knowledge that produces action, conformity to the likeness of God and a turning away from all behaviors God hates.
Application
I'm not wise if I know all that God loves and hates but do nothing about it. That shows no fear of God. I'm wise if I'm afraid to dishonor the Lord by my words, thoughts and actions. I'm wise if I'm afraid to offend the Lord or bring Him shame by anything I think, say or do, so that I take care to know what He delights in and what offends Him, and diligently train myself to walk in those things He loves and to cut out of my life those things He hates. That is wisdom and understanding. Job lived it, except for one small misunderstanding. I can learn to be like him, and learn from his one mistake, so as not to repeat it.
