Passage Read: Psalm 59-62
Meditation Verses: 62:9-12

Thought

Men are nothing. They're just men! There is no difference between noble and common, between highborn and lowborn, they're all just men. The poor should not be ignored and the rich should not be idolized. Though the latter have much power over the lives of the former, they are still just men. Knowing God should put all men into perspective. More than that, since what sets them apart is money, wealth, riches, these things are easily idolized, especially in a society where fortunes can change and raise a man's status from low to high. So the psalmist warns against any expression of greed, whether extortion or theft or even trusting in honest gain. It is not money or earthly status that matters, but God, knowing Him and doing what pleases Him, so that He can reward righteousness rather than repay wickedness.

Application

Oh, Lord, help me not trust in riches or pursue wealth. These things are vanity, just as social position is meaningless. The only thing that matters is knowing the Lord and doing His will. It doesn't matter how men categorize me, whether highborn or lowborn, all men stand equal before You, and all men will be judged by the same righteous standard: Your own holiness. Whether I have savings or not, let me never trust in wealth or seek to trust in it. That is the test, though, what will I do when I have money? Will I use it for the Lord, to be generous toward others and give where needed, or will I use it for myself, spend it on my wants? God, help me see how I can help others with it, how I can use it to advance Your kingdom.
