Passage Read: Psalm 35-38
Meditation Verses: 37:16-17

Thought

The righteous have little, and it is better to be the righteous who have little, than to be the wicked who have much. It is better to have little because of righteousness than to have great wealth because of wickedness. A few verses later, the psalmist even says that the righteous give generously, though they have little! Money and wealth are not important to the righteous, but people are, and helping and meeting needs. The righteous care more about blessing others than they do about gathering wealth and growing more comfortable. That's why the Lord loves them, because He too wants to give and be generous and help others that they would love and honor Him.

Application

The righteous can only offer a little help because they themselves have little, but what they have they're willing to share. Maybe they have little because they keep sharing whatever profit they make with others. Maybe they just don't care that much about gathering wealth; they care more about being a blessing to those in need, to everyone around them! There is a freedom in having little, because you don't need to worry about its safety or upkeep. And you can also be freer to give to help others or support those who serve the Lord. I want this kind of righteousness, even if it means having little.
