Passage Read: Psalm 119
Meditation Verse: 119:152

Thought

The psalmist truly loves the Lord and His law. He does not consider it a burden, but a delight to know and walk in obedience to God's commands. Nor does he consider complete obedience to be beyond the grasp of ordinary men who love God! Though he asks for help to remain steadfast in obedience, he never considers it hopeless to keep all God's decrees. And in his pursuit of God's law, he has discovered that these commands are to last forever. Of course! Because they describe the character and nature of God, and God never changes! Is that what he saw and understood? These are the laws God established for the kingdom He set up, so why would I expect any other kingdom He establishes to have any different decrees? Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, so of course every kingdom He rules over will have the same set of laws and commands. The Scriptures teach about Him, even and especially through the law.

Application

When I believed in Jesus, the new heart I was given had the law written on it. Surely the kingdom Jesus sets up at the end of this age will have the same law given through Moses as its law. And doubtless the same law will be the rule of the land on the new earth. His law is not burdensome, except as it calls me to crucify my flesh and put an end to my selfishness. At its core, the law is love for God and love for my neighbor. And the law both describes and illustrates what God means by love. God intends for the law to last forever, so I should not be afraid of it, but learn to do what it says, to live by its character because I am called to imitate the Lord.
