Passage Read: Ecclesiastes 11 - Song of Solomon 2
Meditation Verse: Ecclesiastes 11:5

Thought

I do not know the path of the wind, but men are beginning to understand how the body is formed in the womb. That doesn't make it any less marvelous, and neither does that mean we understand it all. But given this verse, it means we can begin to understand the ways of God who makes all things. God tells Jeremiah that the one who boasts should boast that he knows the Lord. So Solomon is right in that I cannot understand all that God is doing in the lives of every person, but I can understand God. I cannot understand all His works, but I can know Him, His character and His nature. I can know what He delights in and learn to do it.

Application

Solomon's wisdom here does not mean it is futile to learn about God or impossible to understand Him, but that it is difficult to know exactly all that God is doing in the world, in the lives of others and even in my own life. But anything God tells us and teaches us about Himself and His ways, these are all things we can learn and know and bank on! "The revealed things belong to us!" So I should not take this verse to mean it is impossible for me to understand and know the Lord, but that I cannot be sure of what God is doing in the life of another or even in my own life. I can have some educated guesses, based on my understanding of who God is and what is important to Him, but I cannot say definitively, "This is what God is doing." Unless He reveals it to me, as in a dream or prophetic message.
