Passage Read: Psalm 132-135
Meditation Verse: 133:1
Thought
This is actually the whole point of the Law, in particular the case laws and the moral laws. They all teach or give examples how to love our neighbor as ourselves, which would produce a unity among brothers and neighbors far and near. When everyone worships, fears and follows the same directives from God, then all are on the same page, actually living in love for one another. God desires unity and has shown us how to get there. So disunity is actually our fault, not God's. There is only one God, one likeness for God, and one revelation from God. When we walk according to His instructions and example, we will have unity with those who do the same, but will also recognize those with whom we are not united. We may love and serve all people, but we will not have unity with all.
Application
My first order of business is to make sure I'm united with Christ. That begins with bowing the knee and submitting myself fully to Him. If I don't recognize Him as God and I pick and choose what to follow and obey, I'm actually in rebellion, I'm competing with Him for authority and control. We're not united, and I'll be unable to find unity with His true followers. Once I submit myself fully to Him, that means I work to conform my life ever more fully to His example and instruction, and in so doing I remain united with Him. He teaches me to do good to all men, especially those who belong to the family of believers. In that process, I'll discover who else is likewise walking in unity with Christ, my brothers and sisters with whom I have genuine unity and fellowship. How pleasant that fellowship will be, a taste of the deep and eternal fellowship and joy in the kingdom of Christ and of God, where this psalm will be the eternal reality.
