Passage Read: 1 Chronicles 23-26
Meditation Verses: 25:4-5
Thought
God promised to exalt Heman, and did so by granting him fourteen sons. His sons would be leaders of divisions in the work, and they would multiply and become even greater numbers with more responsibilities coming into his family. And he would be the head of them all. This idea doesn't exist much today, at least in the so-called "modern world." Is that because there is "no longer male and female"? How will this work out in the kingdom and in eternity? Will it matter at all? Will there be greater honor to those who have more descendants and less honor for those with fewer? All of us at the end of the age have little chance compared to those early in history. Our clans can never be as great as theirs. Unless evangelism and discipleship will add to our numbers?
Application
There will be many broken lines, I'm sure, because not all believe in Jesus, and not all believe to salvation. Will there be any family line unbroken? Perhaps there will be many starts and stops, so many of our clans may yet be of similar size, and all come back to a single focal point, a single clan or maybe a tribal leader. But will it really matter in the kingdom? Will duties be parcelled out according to family lines and houses? Even if not, even if none of this family stuff matters, it is true that those who bring more people to salvation will share greater honor than those who being fewer, so this concept should still be promoted. There is greater glory to those who bring many "sons" into God's kingdom. We should still be "jealous" for such glory and honor. I should, even if no one else cares.
