Passage Read: Psalm 87-90
Meditation Verses: 88:13-18
Thought
This psalm is surprising. The author acknowledges the Lord as the one who saves him, yet he has suffered from his youth and considers himself rejected by God. But for all that, he hasn't grown embittered against the Lord. He still cries out to the Lord for salvation. This is great faith and trust in the Lord despite all the Lord has brought upon him, all the suffering and loss. He continues to trust in the Lord and remain loyal to Him. This also shows that God allows some of us to suffer great things and not for a short time. The psalmist is suffering like Job, but for his whole life rather than a few days or weeks or months.
Application
God does not grant relief to all those who suffer even though they believe in Him. And long suffering doesn't have to destroy one's faith in God. I don't have to have an easy or comfortable life in order to trust in the Lord and remain faithful to Him. Even if things go badly for me and remain so a long time, I can believe the Lord is God and will one day relieve my suffering, even if it means taking me from this life. God is God, whether He fills my life with joy or with suffering.
