Passage Read: 1 Chronicles 3-6
Meditation Verse: 5:19-20
Thought
The three tribes east of the Jordan had some successes in battle, and here the Scriptures record their victory against the Hagrites. They gained the victory not because they had a significant army with great skills, which is mentioned a few verses earlier, but because they cried out to the Lord during the battle and the Lord answered them because they trusted in Him. It's interesting that it notes those two aspects: They cried out to him in battle (as opposed to before), and the Lord answered because they trusted in Him. It's not enough to cry out to Him, but they also had to trust in Him. Because they trusted in Him, He answered them and gave them victory.
Application
That's a good reminder to me. It's not enough to pray to the Lord for help, but I need to believe and trust in Him, and He will be inclined to grant victory. It's not enough to mouth the right words, but I have to have the heart to trust Him for whatever outcome He deems fit. Do I merely talk about the Lord, say nice things about Him, speak highly of Him, but do not actually trust Him? Then who knows what He will do for me? But if I actually trust Him and act accordingly, then He will be more pleased to honor my faith and dependence on Him with victory.
